Lirien — Character Sheet

(Crystael Lirien, of the Auravel line. Filename kept as THE-SISTER for continuity; she goes by Lirien.) Nyra’s full-elf half-sister. Catalyst in book one (arrives and detonates Nyra’s world); protagonist of book two (her own novel, from her side). Most of this is ICEBERG for book one — it presses on every scene, it does NOT get explained on the page. Structured on the _CHARACTER-SHEET-SCAFFOLD. Fill by WATCHING: empty boxes are things not yet watched, not gaps to invent.

NAME (FINAL, locked 2026-07-19 — chosen by Jess + Athena together): Crystael Lirien, of the Auravel line.

Crystael = her FORMAL / official first name — the given name, on the record, the ceremonial one. ATHENA’s choice (age 12, held naming rights) — the honoured bridge from her beloved “Crystal.” Sharper, crystalline. Her standing / who she is on paper.

Lirien = the name she GOES BY — everyday, lived, intimate, what most call her and what the PAGE uses by default. JESS’s choice — the one she knew (“that’s her name”). Soft, flowing, vowel-heavy — sounds like Nyra’s sister said together (“Nyra and Lirien”). Her self / who she actually is.

⚡ The split rhymes with the book: Crystael = standing (what she IS on paper), Lirien = self (who she actually is) — the are/do fracture, even in her own name.

Auravel = the LINE-NAME (bloodline; the shared-father amber). She is of the Auravel line.

The first+middle-name elf convention let Jess’s choice AND Athena’s choice both be canon — parenting solution = worldbuilding solution.

⭐ THE PEG / THE FLAW (the engine)

She doesn’t feel good enough. She has spent her whole life living up to something she could never become.

The reason (found fast and true): she wasn’t good enough because she wasn’t the firstborn — the firstborn he couldn’t keep. She’s spent her life as the child he KEPT, feeling second place to the child he LOST. You can’t compete with a ghost — loss makes a person perfect and permanent. Her lifelong ache had a cause she couldn’t name, until she found the box and it clicked: there was always someone before me.

1. PHYSICAL / BIOLOGICAL

Age: 20 at the story week (Nyra is 23; gap 2 years 8 months). Full chronology: the-keeper-timeline.
Height/build: tall. Full elf — so (by the world’s rules) uncanny, still, ageless, unmarked; reads as belonging, whole, “proper.”
Hair: dark, long, beautifully braided — tended, ordered, someone-cared-for-this hair. Set against Nyra’s unruly curly hair. Two heads of hair = two childhoods: the cared-for heir vs the survivor who manages herself. DON’T caption — just let both be in the room.
Voice: she struggles to communicate verbally — words don’t come easily, especially under feeling. [Pitch/pace NOT YET WATCHED. Note: at the reunion she manages “I finally found you” and little else — speech fails her too.]
Gait/manner: when frightened she retreats — goes within herself (folds inward rather than out). [Her ordinary walk/bearing NOT YET WATCHED — watch her moving through her father’s world, the heir’s poise vs the inward flinch.]
State of health: [NOT YET WATCHED].
Voice in motion (OU tip 1.5): she struggles verbally, and it likely WORSENS under feeling (mute at the reunion) and around the father she’s tried to please.
Dress (⚡ the costume mirror, Jess 2026-07-19): long flowing robes — “almost like a uniform and expectation.” Robes as STATUS, as bloodline worn on the body; she doesn’t dress herself, her role dresses her. She IS the Auravel line made visible. ⚡ She wore the SAME robes even after travelling across the cosmos to find Nyra — a woman crossing space/years/danger who never changes out of formal dress, because they’re not clothes, they’re who she is. Even in the act of DEFYING her father (the search), she arrives in his world’s uniform. She fled the expectation and wore it the whole way. (Also: the not-enough girl NEEDS the uniform to feel she has a right to be anywhere — she can’t dress down. Armour of a belonging she doesn’t feel.) The silhouette (ref-pinned 2026-07-19): structured, floor-length elf-robe register (Rivendell/Tolkien-elf family — Jess has reference images). ROBES AS ARCHITECTURE: engineered, deliberate, vertical lines, high collar, layered draping, muted metallic/jewel tones. Not soft/floaty — STRUCTURED, holds the body upright, still, monumental. ⚡ The robe does to her body what the bloodline does to her life: keeps her contained, formal, held to a shape she can’t slump out of.
⚠️ DRAFTING REMINDER: the reference images are for JESS’S EYE. On the PAGE, do NOT describe robes in catalogue detail. Use the ONE telling detail that carries the impression (how the fabric pools when she stops; travelling-dust on formal robes; the sound of all that cloth in a plain stone library).

⚡ THE RIVERBANK — the costume mirror IN MOTION (Jess 2026-07-19, watched)

Nyra and Lirien walk the riverbank together. Nyra is free, completely at home (barefoot, reading the ground — her element). Lirien instinctively pulls her dress up at the hem, pinning it against her thighs as they walk — uncomfortable in these surroundings.

⚡ THE REVERSAL: for the whole book LIRIEN belongs and NYRA doesn’t. HERE IT FLIPS. The robes that give her standing on the elf world become dead weight on Nyra’s ground — they pool, trail, catch. Her status is a burden here. The riverbank is NYRA’s court, and Lirien has arrived in the wrong clothes.
Body-knows-first: the hem-pinning is a small self-conscious MANAGING gesture — shown, never captioned.

2. PSYCHOLOGICAL

Temperament: inward, retreating under fear; capable of enormous resolve (searched worlds for years) that coexists with deep self-doubt.
Happiness/unhappiness: carries a lifelong not-enoughness — never measured up to the bloodline she was born to carry. Second place to a ghost.
Self-knowledge: she can NAME her ache now (since the box) but naming it hasn’t healed it. Braced, possibly, for rejection (her not-enough would expect Nyra to turn her away).
Unconscious/silence: goes MUTE under strong feeling (see Voice + CONNECTIONS — the genetic silence).
Attitudes: love strong enough to defy her father; a need to be found-good-enough that drives everything.

Inner life (OU tip 1.5)

Wants: to be found good enough — for her father, for the bloodline; and (underneath) to find and be accepted by the sister she searched worlds for.
Thinks: that she has always fallen short of what she was born to be.
Remembers: the moment she found the box and everything clicked — “there was always someone before me.”
Resents: [lightly] the ghost-sister she could never compete with — before she knew her, the unnamed shadow she kept losing to. (Complicated now by love.)
Fears: rejection — that Nyra will turn her away; that she isn’t enough even for this.
Dreams: [NOT YET WATCHED — likely a version of belonging / being enough / the sisters whole.]
Denies: [NOT YET WATCHED — watch for it. Possibly: denies how much she needs Nyra to accept her, framing the search as duty/love rather than her own hunger to matter.]

3. INTERPERSONAL / CULTURAL

Family: the father (whom she’s spent her life trying to be enough for), his wife/her mother, and the half-sister she searched worlds to find.
Birthplace/culture: born into the father’s own world — a “proper,” purebred bloodline obsessed with purity and standing. The heir. Raised inside the exact honour-culture Nyra was cast out of.
Values/beliefs: shaped by that bloodline’s obsession with standing — which is the water she swims in and the weight that crushes her.
Lifestyle: had vault access for years (elf of standing). Otherwise [NOT YET WATCHED].

4. PERSONAL HISTORY

Her birth: the father returned to his promised marriage, but he and his wife struggled to conceive. She arrives hard-won, late, longed-for — a miracle heir into a bloodline that wasn’t producing one. Born as the ANSWER to a problem. (You can’t be a whole person when you’re an answer.)
The discovery (the turn): the father, leaving the vault in a hurry, left his hidden box very slightly visible. She found it by accident, read the love letters, and pieced together the truth: a half-sister, the mixed heritage, everything.
The defiance / the search: her father forbade her to go off-world to find Nyra. She went anyway — searched multiple worlds over years. ⚡ The one time she stops trying to be good enough for him — the one time she DISOBEYS — is the time she goes looking for the ghost. She had to BREAK with the father to reach the thing that haunts her.
The BEST: [NOT YET WATCHED — her most wonderful experience, the joy, is untouched. Worth finding so she isn’t only pain.]

CONNECTIONS / ICEBERG / MOTIFS

⚡ THE MIRROR (the book’s central engine — one fracture split in two)

Both sisters crushed by the SAME father, from OPPOSITE ends:

Nyra: he left, so I was never wanted. (Starved of him.)
Lirien: he stayed, and I could never be enough for what he needed. (Buried under him.) Each envies the other’s half. Nyra thinks Lirien got the whole father and the whole world; Lirien has spent her life losing to Nyra’s ghost. Neither knows she is the other’s envied shadow. When they stand in a room together, each wants the life the other resents. One wound, two faces.

⚡ THE GENETIC SILENCE

Nyra goes mute under feeling (in the glow scene, Lirien says “I finally found you” and NYRA FAILS TO SPEAK). Lirien ALSO can’t get words out. So the reunion = two women who both go silent under feeling, each needing the other to speak first, the GLOW doing all the talking because neither can. Traces to the FATHER, who could never speak any of it either. Three generations who cannot say the thing. The silence is genetic — a theme arriving through the back door.

The glow

Golden amber (shared father) + TEAL (her own mother). Warm/cool, near-opposite, striking, WHOLE — a glow that looks like it belongs. Against Nyra’s weak/mixed/unreadable glow. When they glow together the amber MATCHES (kinship undeniable) but Lirien’s is VIVID where Nyra’s is FAINT — even the proof they’re sisters shows Lirien belonging and Nyra a smudge. The glow performs the whole inequality, silently.

⚡ THE BRACELET AT THE REUNION (Jess 2026-07-17)

When she finally finds Nyra — they lock eyes, she approaches — she sees the bracelet on Nyra’s wrist and is JOLTED back to her father’s wrist. Recognises it instantly (she’s the only one in the room who’s seen the father’s hidden one).

She gets CONFIRMATION from the object before the glow finishes rising — the bracelet tells her that’s really her a beat before the light does.
⚡ THE INFORMATION GAP: she UNDERSTANDS the bracelet; Nyra does NOT. One sees a family sign and caves in; the other sees a stranger staring at her wrist. Same fluency gap as the glow, DOUBLED onto the bracelet.

Role across the two books

Book one: catalyst — arrives, glows, “I finally found you,” detonates Nyra’s sealed life. Inner world PRESSES on every line, never explained.
Book two: protagonist — the not-enough, the ghost-sister, the defiance, the search — blooms from her side.

⚡ THE NAMING SYSTEM + AURAVEL (canon locked 2026-07-17, built with Ellis)

Elf naming = personal name + formal/bloodline name + LINE-NAME. NO surnames. Elves don’t have surnames (that’s an Earth/human thing) — they are placed by their bloodline. Avoid the word “house” (too Game of Thrones); the construction is “of the [X] line.” The world also gives a formal given name (ceremony/standing/the vault) and an everyday name (what you’re actually called).

AURAVEL = THE LINE-NAME (locked — “of the Auravel line”). Jess heard it the instant it was in a sentence. Auravel was Ellis’s glow-name suggestion (carries the amber-gold of the shared-father glow) — which is exactly why it’s the LINE-name not a personal name: it belongs to the bloodline, not the individual. The Auravel line = the amber. To be of the Auravel line is to carry the father’s gold in blood + glow + name, all one thing.

⚡ THE SISTERS’ NAMES PERFORM THE MIRROR:

Lirien IS of the Auravel line — she bears the name, belongs to the amber, is placed by it. Named = belonging.
Nyra is ALSO of the Auravel line by blood/amber — but does NOT carry the name. On the elf world, a human surname where a line-name should be reads as NO bloodline at all — an absence.
⚡ THE REUNION, RENAMED: when the sisters glow together and the amber matches, it’s the Auravel line recognising itself across the gap — one sister who bears the name, one who was denied it.

⚡⚡ THE CLOCK + THE NAME-RECOGNITION (book one’s central engine — locked 2026-07-19)

The name recognition (how Nyra realises who Lirien is)

When they’re formally introduced, Nyra hears “Lirien” beside her own name and something recognises the RHYME before her mind knows why — “Nyra and Lirien,” they sound like they were always meant to be a pair.
⚡ THE DISCREPANCY: Lirien introduces herself by her LIVED name — Lirien. But Nyra processed every intake slip that week, and there was NO Lirien. Because the slip said Crystael (the FORMAL name). So Nyra has already handled her sister’s paperwork without knowing it — read “Crystael”, filed it. Now a stranger says “I’m Lirien” and it doesn’t match. The two-name system, built to solve a parenting problem, became the mechanism of recognition.

⚡ THE CLOCK — the ticking deadline

Lirien was DENIED residence — but she wasn’t trying to stay. She came only to MEET her sister.
⚡ She has only until the next SUNDAY, when the airship leaves. ~one week. Six days. Then she’s gone.
⚡ WHY THIS IS THE ENGINE: everything Nyra has ever wanted (to be seen, to belong, to reach for kin) walks through the door WITH AN EXPIRY DATE. Give that woman UNLIMITED time and she’d avoid forever. Give her SIX DAYS and the deadline FORCES the confrontation with her flaw.
⚡ IT RHYMES WITH THE WORLD: the airship’s weekly rhythm, the one-way passage, the rejection — all the economy machinery converges into a COUNTDOWN.

⚡ THE ACT-ONE TIMELINE (the countdown, mapped — locked 2026-07-19)

Monday (day): Lirien first off the airship. Logged as VISITOR (slip says CRYSTAEL). Nyra sleeps by day.
Monday (night): the intake slip crosses NYRA’S DESK.
Tuesday (day): Lirien searches for Nyra; Nyra’s asleep — they JUST MISS each other.
Tuesday (early evening): they finally meet. The glow. “I finally found you.” ⚡ Nyra immediately leaves to go to work. AVOIDANCE. Her FLAW in a single move.
Wednesday-Saturday: four days left. The window closing.
Sunday: the airship leaves. Decision forced.

⚡ THE TWO TRAPS (what makes the clock un-escapable)

No extension. Extensions must be applied for AHEAD OF TIME, OFF-WORLD. The clock CANNOT be paused.
⚡ Nyra has no money to leave — she’s reliant on Lirien. For a woman whose whole identity is self-contained, the escape route requires the one thing she can’t do: depend on someone. ⚡ THE FLAW AND THE EXIT ARE THE SAME LOCKED DOOR.
